Getting started with the Gitsu Web App

The Gitsu Web App runs in the browser at dash.gitsu.app. It opens the GitHub Projects boards you already have, so there is nothing to migrate and nothing to set up first. This page walks through the first sign-in, choosing which boards to import, and adding more boards later.

If you would rather work from a native window, the desktop app for macOS uses the same GitHub sign-in and the same board picker. Everything below applies to both, apart from how the sign-in page opens.

Before you start

You need a GitHub account and at least one GitHub Projects board, the kind GitHub calls Projects (not the classic project boards). The board can belong to your personal account or to an organization you are a member of.

Gitsu keeps your work in GitHub. It reads your boards through the GitHub API and sends every change back to GitHub, so an issue you edit in Gitsu is the same issue your team sees on github.com. The privacy policy sets out what Gitsu stores and what it never does.

Sign in with GitHub

1. Open dash.gitsu.app in your browser.
2. On the Connect your GitHub account screen, choose Continue with GitHub. The button changes to Taking you to GitHub while the browser moves to GitHub.
3. On GitHub, review the access Gitsu asks for and approve it. Gitsu asks for access to your projects and repositories so it can read your boards and save your views.
4. GitHub sends you back to Gitsu, which finishes signing you in.

The web sign-in is GitHub's standard redirect flow, so there is no device code to copy and nothing to wait for. The desktop app shows a device code instead, because it signs in through GitHub's device verification page.

Choose the boards to import

After sign-in, the Import projects step lists every GitHub Projects board your account can reach. Nothing is selected at first.

• Tick the boards you want in the project switcher, or use Select all. Clear selection starts over.
• The Continue to Gitsu button stays disabled until at least one board is selected.
• An unticked Help improve Gitsu checkbox sits under the list. Tick it only if you want to share anonymous product analytics.

When you choose Continue to Gitsu, Gitsu imports the selected boards one at a time. Each row shows its state as it goes: Waiting, Importing, Imported or Failed. Large boards import page by page, and the row shows how far along it is.

If at least one board imports, Gitsu opens the first one you selected that succeeded. If every selected board fails, you stay on the list with a No projects could be imported message and a Retry import button, so you never land in an empty window.

When no boards are listed

No discoverable projects means Gitsu found no board your account can reach. There are two usual causes:

• The account has no GitHub Projects board yet. Choose Create a project to make one without leaving Gitsu: give it a name, link a repository (or create one), and add an optional description. The new board appears in the list already selected.
• A board someone shared with you is not linked to any repository you can access. GitHub's API cannot discover a shared board without a linked repository. Ask its owner to link one, then choose Rescan.

If you have access to a very large number of boards, Gitsu may show Some projects are not shown. Open GitHub to browse the full list.

Add more boards later

You can change the set of boards at any time. Choose Add projects in the top bar to open the same list, tick or untick boards, and choose Save projects. This changes only which boards appear in the switcher on this device. It never changes, archives or deletes a project on GitHub.
